Why check indexing?

A page that is not in Google’s index cannot rank, and a backlink on such a page passes no value. Many pages — new guest posts, profile links, thin or duplicate pages — are never indexed, and you only find out months later when nothing has moved.

An index check tells you right away which URLs count and which don’t, so you can fix pages, ask for replacement links, or send the missing ones for indexing.

How accurate is it?

Google does not offer an official API to check whether pages on other people’s websites are indexed. For each URL, our provider runs two Google queries — a site: search for the exact URL and a search for the URL itself — and reports the page as indexed when Google returns it.

This matches what you would see searching Google yourself, but no outside tool can be 100% certain, and indexing changes over time. Treat each result as the status at the moment of the check, and re-check important URLs from time to time.
